Q: I have white hairs, will electrolysis work for me?
A: Yes! Electrolysis will work on white hair and the lightest blonde hair, along with every other color hair.
Q: Am I done after one treatment?
A: No. Although electrolysis is the only FDA approved 100% PERMANENT method of hair removal, it is NOT one and done. It is PROGRESSIVELY PERMANT, meaning that it will take several treatments. After each clearing, you will notice less hair regrow, and the hairs that do come back will be finer and lighter until they are gone completely.
Q: How long will it take the area to be done?
A: This depends on several different factors: If your hair growth is hormonal in nature, how fast your hair grows, how much hair you have, how often you are able to have sessions, and how consistent you are with treatment. Everyone is different, and a consultation helps provide the proper plan for your needs and an estimation of about how long it could take for you to be hair free.
Q: Does electrolysis hurt?
A: Most describe the feeling as a small pinch similar to a little bug bite, a heat sensation, or a little zap. It really depends on your personal level of pain tolerance. There are certain areas that can be more tender than others, like the upper lip. I have some clients that fall asleep during a session, and I have some that need numbing cream.
Q: What is the difference between laser and electrolysis?
A: Laser is considered by the FDA as only a REDUCTION method of hair removal. It does not get rid of every single hair for good. Laser only works for a minimal group of people...those with lighter skin and darker hair. It does not work on blonde, white, red, or light brown hair.
Electrolysis is a method of complete permanent hair removal, can be done on any skin color and type, and on any hair color.
Q: I've never heard of electrolysis before, is it new?
A: Electrolysis has been around since 1875! It has been perfected over the years and is a gentle way to remove unwanted hair.
Q: Can electrolysis be done over my tattoos?
A: Yes! Electrolysis can be performed over tattoos.
Q: I have scabbing, is that normal?
A: Scabbing is normal in some areas and they will go away in a week or two, depending on how fast your body heals. They will not create scars, just don't pick!
Q: Can I tweeze or shave in between treatments?
A: Definitely do not tweeze, wax or thread anymore if you are getting electrolysis. These types of hair removal methods only strengthen the hair and starts the process over. We electrologists have a saying...only tweeze the hairs you want to keep!
Shaving is okay but keep in mind that each hair grows at a different rate, so shaving can end up hiding those hairs that come in slower. This will prolong treatment.
Cutting or trimming troublesome hairs is the best way to get through in between treatments.
